Build Your Brand In One Week!

Do you find yourself wanting to launch a business but don’t know heads or tails about branding? Follow our step by step guide on how you can build your own brand in a week!

Everyday I read tweets and posts from individuals who have brilliant business ideas, but absolutely no idea where to start when it comes to creating and developing your brand.  By following this guide, you will be able to build your brand by the end of the week!

This guide will help you to:

  • Come up with a name for your business
  • Produce branding materials (logos and graphics)
  • Create a Facebook page
  • Secure a domain and design your website
  • Setup custom email addresses
  • Organise printing of flyers and business cards
  • Arrange flyer distribution

Resources that you will need:

Think about the products or services your business offers. For example, if I was helping a client who offered cake decorating and baking services I would suggest naming their business ‘Suzie’s Cakes’ or ‘The Cake Emporium’. If you want your brand to standout from the crowd, perhaps go for something more abstract like MOO, which is the name of a creative and print company.

After choosing a few name options, get in touch with the web designers at Cheap Site Builder and they can check the availability of the domain name and suggest alternatives if it is unavailable. Once you have decided on the domain name they will secure it and provide your web hosting, as well as designing your website too!

Once you have a name in place, you need to create your brand to help visualise your business. Branding is key when it comes to promoting your business as it is the first part of the business that the customer is exposed to, even before sales – therefore first impressions count.

The five key elements of branding are:

  • Name
  • Logo
  • Imagery
  • Colour palette
  • Theme (e.g. Corporate, playful, personal, abstract – etc.)

You already have a name for your business so head over to Kizzi Can Do to start discussing your graphic design and branding ideas. The designers there are very friendly and work hard to personalise your creative journey, ensuring that you are happy at every stage before achieving the final designs.

Whilst you are waiting for your consultation, start browsing the internet and putting together colour schemes, fonts, branding examples and images together in a mood board or even just on a Pinterest board so that you have some visual concepts to share with the designer for inspiration.

This step is nice and simple. Just login to your Facebook account and create a new page. If you get stuck, Facebook has a built in tutorial on the new page indicating what steps you need to do in order to setup your page. The key bits are your brand name, about your brand, contact details and location. In the next section we will explain how to get great graphics for social media!

When we have finished setting up your Facebook page and website, you are going to need images. You can upload any product images you have or any photos of you on the job, you can also use stock photos and get the designers at Kizzi Can Do to design you some social media graphics (e.g. Facebook banners and adverts).

Now that we have your domain and branding, you’re going to need a website. Head on over to Cheap Site Builder (you can just scroll to the top of this page and click Services!) and then have a browse through our packages. Each package contains a website that will be built to your needs and tailored around your budget. If you have any questions or would like to book a consultation, all you have to do is give us a call or fill in the contact form.

If you offer a service, you would benefit from our Basic Four-Page Package, whereas if you wanted to include an online shop our E-Commerce Package would be the better option. If you have a limited budget we provide a Starter Two-Page Package or if you have a larger budget and would like a more luxurious package perhaps go for our Premium Ten-Page Package.

Now that our brand is all sorted it’s time to work on print materials! Pop on over to EMJ Printing and have a look at the different products they have available and see which one appeals to you. Personally I would recommend the New Business Starter Bundle for start-ups as it is brilliant value for money.

The designers over at EMJ Printing are very supportive and helpful. They provide proofing at every stage, the graphic design is free and you only have to pay for printing and delivery. One of their best features is their fast turnaround rate!

Well done, you’ve finished all of your branding! This last step is optional, but recommended. When your leaflets arrive you want to get them out there as quickly as you can so that people know who you are! However, distributing leaflets can be quite time consuming, plus is can be disheartening when residents get frustrated with posting the leaflets through doors.

To save yourself the time and energy, Millipede Distributions provide a leaflet and flyer distribution service that does all the hard work for you!

And there you have it – one brand in just one week!
